Tierney Fitzgerald
Student Intern
Hi everyone, I'm Tierney.
I am a Counselling Psychology student intern completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I currently work as an Emotional Behaviour Specialist and brings over 10 years of experience supporting children in school and community settings, having previously served as an Elementary and Special Education Teacher.
I am passionate about supporting youth and their families as they navigate diverse neurodevelopmental and associated behavioural and mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and difficulties with social belonging. In my counselling practice, I collaborate with my supervisor to provide tailored support to children, adolescents, and adults. Committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and compassionate environment, I ensure me clients feel valued and understood. I practice with a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed lens, emphasizing authenticity, respect, and meaningful connection. My approach is rooted in creating a non-judgmental space where clients can build resilience and achieve personal growth. I employ a holistic, strengths-based, and person-centered framework, incorporating developmentally appropriate, evidence-based interventions. I integrate play-based techniques and mindfulness into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, helping clients enhance self-awareness, emotional literacy, and adaptive coping skills.
My goal is to empower individuals to harness their unique strengths and confidently navigate challenges, fostering growth in alignment with their values and therapeutic goals.
