Tierney Fitzgerald

Student Intern

Hi everyone, I'm Tierney.

I am a student intern clinician completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. With over 10 years of experience working with children in school and community settings, I currently serve as a Behaviour Consultant and have previously worked as an Elementary and Special Education Teacher.

I am passionate about supporting youth and their families as they navigate neurodevelopmental diagnoses, behavioural concerns, and mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and social belonging. In my counselling practice, I collaborate closely with my supervisor to provide individualized support to children, teens, adults, and families. I am committed to fostering a safe, accepting, and compassionate environment where every client feels valued and understood. My approach is neuro-affirming and trauma-informed, emphasizing authenticity, respect, and meaningful connection.

I strive to create a non-judgmental space where clients feel supported in building resilience and achieving personal growth. Using a strengths-based and person-centered framework, I incorporate developmentally appropriate, evidence-based interventions to promote self-awareness and motivation. I integrate play-based techniques, mindfulness, and elements of narrative therapy within Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic approaches, helping clients enhance emotional literacy, self-awareness, and adaptive coping skills.

My goal is to empower individuals to recognize their unique strengths, build confidence in facing challenges, and continue growing throughout life.
