Karl Merritt

Registered Psychologist

Karl Merritt has extensive experience working with a range of populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. He specializes in children’s mental health, including preschoolers.  He also enjoys and has experience supporting couples and adults.  Karl has worked as a psychologist for over ten years in a variety of settings, including schools, community mental health, private practice, and tertiary day treatment programs. He is a past registered social worker and has degrees in psychology, social work and philosophy/theology.

Karl is passionate about providing psychological care.  He devotes time and energy to meeting the needs of his clients. He believes good therapy acknowledges the struggle, distress and impairment, but moves to increased hope, engagement, and success. Karl is older than he appears in his photo.  He actually even has two children.  He enjoys rock climbing and yoga, and for the last 20 years has been striving to move beyond tolerating running.

Karl is an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta with both the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Educational Psychology.  In these positions, he supports the training of psychiatry residents in the child and adolescent subspecialty program, and doctoral students in the school and clinical psychology program.
